Cyclists

MYTH: As a cyclist, I don’t need to follow the same rules as motorists.

Cyclists are generally treated the same as motorists when it comes to rules of the road and must follow the Highway Traffic Act. If a cyclist obtains a traffic violation, it will likely be applied to the cyclist’s driving record and could affect car insurance rates. Cyclists can receive tickets for violations including careless driving, disobeying stop signs, improper turns and failure to stop at amber and red lights.
