No Police Report

Even if there was no police report filed after your car accident, you are still able to file a damage or comprehensive claim within one year of the accident and you have up to two years to file an injury claim. You should be prepared to explain to your insurance company the reason for the delay in filing a claim. Another important fact – if you’re claiming damages due to a hit and run, the insurance company may consider it an at fault loss, as you must report a hit and run accident to the police within 24 hours of the accident occurring.

Accidents can cause your insurance rates to increase, but you might be able to pay a lower rate with a different company. You may want to shop around for car insurance to feel assured that you’re paying the lowest available rate.
