OHIP Coverage
You may receive basic health care for free while travelling outside of Ontario; however, there is no guarantee that what you’ll need will be covered. Many health services are not covered by OHIP including the use of an ambulance or treatment rendered for an illness or injury that arose in Canada. You should research the details of exactly what is covered before leaving the province. It’s always a good idea to have extra medical insurance coverage; especially if you’re travelling. You’ll be wishing you got more coverage if an unfortunate circumstance occurs. If you travel frequently, you might want to consider purchasing an annual plan that will cover all of your trips. And don’t forget, you can shop around for travel insurance to find the coverage that best suits your needs and budget.
